Terms of Service

Last updated 16 September 2026

Draft. This document is a working template written to cover the points a payment provider will look for. Have it reviewed by a lawyer in your jurisdiction, and fill in the company details, before taking money.

These terms govern your use of the Ptero SEO plugin, the Publisher add-on and the websites and services operated by Pterosoft Studio ("we", "us"). By installing the plugin or buying a licence you agree to them.

1. The software

Ptero SEO is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. That licence governs your rights to use, modify and redistribute the code, and nothing in these terms restricts the freedoms it grants you.

What a paid licence buys is not permission to run the software. It buys access to Publisher features, updates, support, and the hosted sign-in service described below, for the term you have paid for.

2. Licences and scope

  • One Publisher licence covers one WordPress installation.
  • A WordPress multisite network counts as a single installation, regardless of how many sites are on it.
  • Separate installations require separate licences, or a group arrangement agreed with us.
  • Licences are subscriptions. They renew automatically until cancelled.

Freemius is our licensing and payment provider and acts as merchant of record for Publisher purchases. It handles checkout, licence activation, subscriptions and billing. Review the price, tax and renewal terms shown in the Freemius checkout before purchase. Manage your licence through Ptero SEO → Account or the Freemius customer portal.

3. When a licence ends

Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals; your licence remains active through the paid period. Once a licence expires, free features remain available, while Publisher features require a renewed licence or active trial. Paid updates, support and the hosted Search Console sign-in service are no longer included. Your stored data is not deleted.

4. The sign-in service

We operate a service that brokers the Google OAuth handshake so you do not have to register your own Google Cloud application. It handles the sign-in exchange only. It does not store your Search Console data, and it does not retain long-lived credentials beyond what is needed to refresh an access token on your site's behalf.

We aim to keep the service available but do not offer an uptime guarantee at these prices. If it is unavailable, you can connect Search Console using your own OAuth client or through Site Kit by Google at no cost.

5. What we do not promise

Ptero SEO helps you produce technically correct SEO signals. It cannot and does not guarantee any search ranking, inclusion in Google News, appearance in Google Discover, or any level of traffic. Those decisions belong to search engines and are outside our control.

The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use the software or our services to publish content that is unlawful, or to manipulate search results through deception — for example by systematically falsifying publication dates. The freshness features exist to prevent that happening accidentally, not to help it happen deliberately.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the software or services is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost traffic, lost revenue or lost rankings.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury or fraud.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new "last updated" date, and where the change affects an active subscription we will contact the licence holder directly.

9. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Pterosoft Studio is registered. Questions go to our contact page.
