Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 September 2026
This policy covers the Ptero SEO plugin, the Publisher add-on, the sign-in service and this website. The short version: your SEO data stays on your server, and we collect as little as we can get away with.
What the plugin sends us
The plugin includes the Freemius SDK for account registration, licensing and updates. The free plugin can be used without opting in to optional usage tracking. The SDK presents its consent choices in WordPress.
When you opt in, register an account or activate a Publisher licence, Freemius processes the account, site and licence information needed to provide those services, including your email address, site URL and licence details. This licensing exchange does not include post content, Search Console reports or visitor analytics. See the Freemius privacy policy for its data practices.
Search Console data
We never receive it. When you connect Search Console, your site requests data directly from Google and stores it in your own database. Our sign-in service brokers the OAuth handshake because Google requires a registered application to do so — it does not proxy the reporting data and does not keep a copy.
Data the plugin stores on your own site
Ptero SEO writes to your database: SEO metadata on posts and terms, redirect rules, a 404 log, an internal link graph, audit findings and cached Search Console figures. All of it lives on your server under your control. The 404 log records requested URLs, referrers and user agents, and is pruned on a schedule you set.
If you buy a licence
Payments and subscriptions are managed by Freemius, our licensing provider and merchant of record. They collect the billing details needed to take payment and handle tax; we receive the information required to issue and support your licence — typically name, email address, country and the licence record itself. We do not see or store card details.
This website
Hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Fonts are served from Google Fonts and JavaScript libraries from jsDelivr, both of which will see your IP address as part of delivering those files. We do not set advertising cookies and do not run cross-site tracking.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU you have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK GDPR and GDPR. Write to us and we will act on a request within one month.
Retention
Licence and billing records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting law, typically six years. Support correspondence is kept for two years. Anything else is deleted when it is no longer needed.
